    Hi enjoyed your video I have a euro mini and opened up the door sensor , opened up the alarm box and replaced the battery , and also opened up the fuse and put it back however now my panel doesn’t accept the user code at all , not sure what the problem is here but it was all fine before this any way I could just get it back to how it was thanks

    Great video, what is your opinion on changing rewireble fuse boxes even though they are still in a good useable condition. Ref page 99 in the onsite guide .

    • @alliedelectricalservicesltd
      @alliedelectricalservicesltd Год назад

      Thanks for your comment Sean. If a consumer unit is still safe for continued operation then there is no need to replace it. Unfortunately for most properties the older rewirable fuse type consumer units do fall a little short in a number of areas. RCD protection being the main one, but also rating for prospective short circuit current, fire-rating of the enclosure, surge protection and not least the ease of use/maintenance (as per the topic of this video) for the householder.

    • @Dog-whisperer7494
      @Dog-whisperer7494 Год назад

      Yes I agree but RCD protection is not retroactive they are only required from 17th edition BS7671 am3 onwards SPDs are a recommendation only at the moment AFDDs are only required in curtain locations ie purpose built student accommodation care homes and dwellings in blocks exceeding 18 metres or six storey in hight . Old rewireble fuse box can be signed of as safe for continued service if there is no damage signs of overheating or thermal damage and all our test results are within the specified range set out in BS7671 . Hence why I mentioned Page 99 of the current edition of the onsite guide. But in my own opinion rewireble fuse box’s should be replaced regardless of there condition. If I had a pound for every rewireble fuse I have seen with the wrong size fuse wire or I nail I would be a very rich man. So yes I agree with you mate . And let just get rid of them . Oh and thank you for your kind reply. Just so you know I have been a spark for a little over thirty years , I did C&Gs 236 parts 1 and 2 and for years at college 1987-1992 .

    Hi I have a wooden door with a round door contact with and I am having a new PVC door fitted .so I will need to change the contact to an oblong one fitted can you tell me if I just change the wire over or not it's the same panel as you are changing the battery on verates 8 alarm

    • @the_tube
      @the_tube 2 года назад

      You’ll likely find it has a pair of wire for the alarm and a pair for the global tamper loop. You’ll need to put it into engineering mode to avoid it going into alarm if you’re going to break the tamper loop.

    On the first Wilex unit shown, the back side of the cover may have details regarding the duties of the fuses written on it in the spaces provided. I fail to see why the earlier examples were not also constructed out of a flame retardant sunstance, like metal. I suspect it may be a case of it not being a requirement at the time of manufacture. Even so, it seems like a fatal flaw in their design, so I'm not sure how it could be overlooked. While these old units may still pass inspections, the safety benefits and convenience of the newer units make upgrading a no-brainer, assuming finances allow.

    • @alliedelectricalservicesltd
      @alliedelectricalservicesltd 3 года назад

      Thanks for the comment James, yes you’re correct about it not being a requirement at the time of manufacture. The requirement for consumer units to be fire-rated was published in BS7671:2018 at the request of the London fire brigade who reported a large number fires starting in consumer units.

      FannyAckin thanks for you comment. As a professional security installer all of the points you mention are valid and correct but this video is aimed at the average DIY’er or homeowner and not professional installers. Hopefully they don’t need RUclips videos to know what do when servicing or changing batteries.

      if have been to long in the service telecoms and alarms industry to know that there are some people who will save £1 if they can do it them selves and the vast majority of these people have no skills and are a real danger to them selves and others . we talk to people who have problems with there equipment and we never tell them to take the cover off and mess with any wires . you can not make enough allowance for what some people will do. you tell them to unclip the battery and they start taking the mains socket apart , yes really ! some of these DIY,s are that bad . Hello Charlie and thanks for viewing. While your comments are totally valid I think they may potentially be beyond the average homeowner who just want to simply change a failed battery. With that in mind we've aimed the video at competent DIY'ers rather than professionals. Hopefully pro's wont need to check RUclips to know how to change the batteries in an alarm panel!!
